As Nyimine Empowerment Community based Organization, we are proud to celebrate Pride Month as a time to recognize the remarkable achievements and progress of the LGBTQ+ community. This year, we marked the occasion by reflecting on the milestones that have shaped the fight for equality and the ongoing efforts to create a more inclusive world.
One of the most significant events in LGBTQ+ history is the Stonewall Riots, which took place on June 28, 1969. This uprising against police oppression sparked the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement and paved the way for the Pride celebrations we know today. As we commemorate the 54th anniversary of Stonewall, we are reminded of the courage and resilience of those who fought for their right to live freely and authentically. As an organization, we are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive safe space where all everyone can thrive.
During Pride Month and throughout the year, we encourage all everyone to celebrate the beauty of diversity, reflect on their own biases, and strive to create an environment where everyone can feel comfortable being their true selves.
